What others are saying

“Esther was great and she created a safe space. I didn’t think that I would like the ‘group’ part, but ultimately that is what I liked the most. Hearing other people talk about their experiences was amazing.”

“This course had a double impact on me. There was the obvious artistic and self-expression evolution. That alone was a significant journey for me. The fact that this was done in a group affected me in a social way as well. Sharing it with a group of people brought another dimension to the journey, with deep feelings of belonging, togetherness, safety, freedom. I don't remember ever sharing this kind of feelings with other non-family people before. I have been living alone for about 6 years, and sharing this experience with others moved me in a new way. For someone like me who is generally introverted, it was pleasant.”

“Esther, your presence brought me a deep sense of joy, calmness, trust, comprehension... I felt the freedom and safety to explore what was within without feeling judged.

***NEW: Weekend Workshop:

Tantra and Consciousness- Level 1

October 17/18, 2015

Cost: $280/ Early bird (before September 1) $250

The way TANTRA is used and propagated in today’s Western culture, usually has very little resemblance with the original TANTRA of India. This grasping of the sexual aspect is not a surprise, since many people in the Western world are trying to free themselves from the sexual repression that distorted versions of Christianity have so successfully promoted. If one researches East-Asian TANTRA, and traces different paths in various regions of the Indian subcontinent, one naturally comes to the understanding that TANTRA is East-Indian Shamanism. Therefore, experiencing conscious unity within oneself, the world and the universe is the primary component as well as the real goal. In the offered courses TANTRA is understood in this context.

Held over one weekend, Level 1 : Tantra and Consciousness focuses on the unification in oneself, to be able to feel unity with the lover and all that is. Taught by Monika Mueller (Germany), author of the book, The Tantra Connection- Healing Through the Cosmic Interface. For more information, please visitwww.alloneness.com.

Making art is a very natural activity that can enable you to express your feelings and connect with your authentic self. Art should be a source of joy, self-affirmation, and happiness. Unfortunately, many people’s experiences of doing art are fraught with self-criticism and judgement on ‘not doing it right’ or ‘not being good enough’, despite secretly always feeling that deep down inside, they are creative.

This course is for people who long to have the tools and the confidence to express themselves-not just through art, but in other aspects of their lives as well. In a safe, supportive, and fun environment, we will be using art therapy techniques, guided meditations, breath work, movement, and music to explore a different art medium each week. This is a ‘non’ art class, where the goal is not about the final product, but rather the process itself. Through experiencing the process, you can learn how to focus on being present in the moment, awaken to your creative self, and acknowledge all the feelings that come up while embarking on this new venture. The emphasis of this course is about deeply listening and connecting to yourself, while honouring and giving permission for whatever form of expression emerges.

At the basic level, everything starts with the breath. Let’s face it, without your breath, you wouldn’t survive for very long. While it is something that you may often overlook, it is literally your source of energy, and life force, or prana. It is linked with your emotions and the first thing to fluctuate when your mood changes. Oxygen nourishes the brain and without enough of it, you can feel fuzzy, tired, or have poor concentration.

Yogic scientific traditions have known and taught this for thousands of years and have many established practices on how to work with the breath. Whether it be managing stress, relieving your anxiety, regulating your emotions, improving your brain function or concentration, increasing energy levels, boosting your immune system, improving public speaking and presentation skills, believe it or not, effective breathing techniques are the basis of it all.

Join us for this dynamic 4-week introduction to the breath, where you will learn about, and practice the basics of breath work. There will be plenty of time to integrate your learning through experiential activities, reflection, group discussion and homework assignments.

Please bring a comfortable blanket to sit upon.

Kundalini Yoga and Art - Winter and Spring 2015

Our body is our guide, and all we need to do is to learn to listen.

Come and experience these unique series of workshops combining Kundalini Yoga and Art. Kundalini yoga is all about awakening your mind/body connection and stimulating your latent creativity. It will allow you to deeply relax, to connect, and more importantly, gain awareness and directly experience YOUR body as it is in the present moment. Through using specific yoga sets that incorporate breath, movement, and postures, each class will awaken different parts of the body, as well as chakras. Making art after doing yoga deepens your practice, as you work with the art materials from a place of deep stillness and connection to your authentic self and your inherent wisdom. It will allow you to translate your body sensations into your own unique creative expression, thus enabling a dialogue to emerge. When your inner landscape is made conscious, your body’s expression in all its forms can become a vehicle for deep insight and change.

This experiential course is suitable for anyone who wishes to gain a deeper understanding of their relationship to their body. Those new to yoga or art are welcome, as are accomplished yogis and artists-and everyone in between. You do not need to be artistic, as you will be guided through the entire process. Please bring a blank journal to class. All art materials are provided and costs included in fee.

Creative Self-Expression Through The Arts!

Sunday, February 22, 2015

10:00-4:00 (1 hour break for lunch)

Have you heard about art therapy and want to try it?

Do you want to learn ways to express yourself through art?

Come and join us for this informative, safe, and fun workshop where you will learn about what art therapy is. Art therapy is an established mental health profession that uses the creative process to improve well-being for everyone. Incorporating art-making as part of the therapeutic process, Art Therapy shows you how to translate your felt experiences into your own unique visual language, allowing you to then be witness to what sometimes words alone cannot express. Making art is a healing and life-affirming activity that has been shown to promote relaxation, joy, self-confidence, and self-awareness.

Through a blend of experiential exercises and theory, you will gain an understanding on how art can be used to support personal insight, authentic self-expression, and for self-care purposes. This is a general interest course that is also suitable for social workers, psychologists, and other health care practitioners who want a deeper understanding of how to incorporate various art techniques in their practice. Please note that there is no art experience or art talent required for this course! *All materials are included in the fee.

Do you have or have you ever had a client with whom you feel particularly strong empathy, comfort, or attraction? And what about the client with whom, despite your commitment and yearning to weave a strong therapeutic alliance, you sometimes struggle to remain focused with, feel tired, bored, anxious, impatient, indifferent, annoyed, angry? With certain clients, at certain moments, we find ourselves having strong emotional, cognitive, or even kinesthetic reactions reactions. Fortunately, when managed and deciphered, these reactions, also known as countertransference, can provide great insight about our clients and us, which can in turn strengthen the therapeutic alliance and contribute to a positive treatment outcome.

During this interactive and creative workshop, you will be initiated to and invited to use of the Creative Arts Response as a means to explore, manage, and understand your own countertransference. Together, we will discuss, create, and explore how the spontaneous use of a pen, a paint-brush, a word, or even our breath can nurture and improve the strong therapeutic alliance we strive to establish with even our most challenging clients.

This workshop DOES NOT REQUIRE ANY PRIOR ARTS TRAINING. Register now because spaces are limited to 8!

Moving Through Painting- Exploring Inner Movement

Have you wanted to feel less inhibited to express yourself creatively?

Have you ever longed to paint, but feel intimidated or don’t know how to begin?

Have you been curious about how painting can help you access your inner feelings?

Using this accessible approach to painting, you will be guided through learning how to access your own body’s movements to kick-start your creative expression. Staying with the natural gestures of your body, you will allow images to emerge from your movements, thereby exploring the process of painting from you inner landscape, rather than leading with the mind.  Previous participants who have never painted before have described this process as extremely liberating, expansive, and much more inviting than taking a ‘regular’ art class. Having a mindful, accepting, and listening approach in conjunction with freedom to express yourself as you are in the moment, will lead you to gain a profound new awareness about yourself. This course is suitable for people with or without art experience. All materials are included.
